Fort Davis High School Library News!
The students at Fort Davis High School were thrilled to receive good news twice in the last few weeks! They have gotten two generous grants to update the high school library.
Last spring a small group of students decided that they wanted to access the library more than they have been and they took it upon themselves to see how to accomplish this goal. Three students turned into six students and the group has now grown to nine students. They contacted the Jeff Davis County Community Library and have gotten incredible support from them and from the Friends of the Library. With their help, they were able to write a grant proposal and they were recently awarded $15,000 for the project. The Jeff Davis County Child Welfare Board also became aware of their efforts and awarded another $1,500 in addition to donating a generous amount of school supplies.
Plans are now underway to paint the library, remove some shelves, restore the floor, purchase new furniture, and begin the arduous task of inventorying and purchasing new materials. The students are so grateful they live in a community that supports them in endeavors like this!
