FDISD is continuing to monitor the progress of the COVID-19 in the Big Bend area.  There are no confirmed cases in our region or within the district’s boundaries; however, there are at least 3 people in the tri-county area being tested currently.  In an effort to be proactive, we will cancel face-to-face instruction through next Friday, March 20th.  We will be utilizing offsite instruction as follows:

Students in grades 6-12 have school district issued laptops and will be able to access Google Classroom, utilizing instruction via Google Classroom, IXL, Odysseyware, dual credit distance learning, etc.

At the elementary level, teachers in grades 2-5 will utilize Google Classroom, IXL, and other websites assigned by their teacher.  Students in grades PK-1 will be issued worksheet packets and/or workbooks in order to continue with instruction.

Teachers will be sending assignments, checking for submitted classwork, and "taking attendance" at least 3 days a week.  For students who did not take their laptops home during the break, we will issue these devices and materials on Monday.  Please continue to monitor our website for more specific information.

Mr. Hicks has been in contact with TEA and UIL.  This is the information he has received thus far:

1. TEA will continue to release information for administrators.  We will keep you apprised of that information as we receive it.
2.  TEA will consider all necessary waivers from districts (attendance, funding, graduation, etc) as long as those districts make good faith attempts to provide instruction to students who may be affected by extended school closings (online instruction, web based instruction, student workbooks, etc.)
3. UIL activities are canceled through March 29th.  Updates will be provided at a later date.

In closing, the Fort Davis ISD community is strong. We have weathered difficult situations before with resilience and a commitment to one another. We know there is a great deal of uncertainty, but we want you to be certain of one thing: We will always make decisions in the best interest of our students and staff.

Please enjoy the remainder of your time off but also stay connected with us by checking your email, school website, and FDISD Facebook page on a regular basis.  We will also utilize the Emergency Contact phone list and messages via Thrillshare if necessary.

We encourage all families to limit their travel outside our area and interaction/activities in large groups, in order to minimize contact with potential carriers. We would urge children and staff to stay home if they are sick or symptomatic.

As of right now, we will not conduct school via face-to-face instruction through March 20th.  We will re-evaluate further closure requirements and time on Friday, March 20.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us immediately.
