What a Realistic Decoration!
What began with the simple placement of an illuminated carved pumpkin, welcoming eager children to the doorstep in the great search for all things sweet and tasty, has been elevated to an art form. Cotton cobwebs hang from bushes, plastic skeletons lean against tree trunks that witches have crashed into on their broom. Animatronic skulls glare with glowing red eyes and shriek with laughter. Inflatable spiders and foam tombstones dot the yards. Maybe, you’ll even see a dead body suspended from a branch by a noose.
On the 26th of October, 2005, the police investigated a grisly scene across the road from a grouping of homes. A suicide had taken place, and was kept in public view for three and a half hours after originally being spotted. Why? Because the victim, a 42-year-old woman, had hung herself, and the neighbors, assuming the suicide was a Halloween decoration, felt no need to report it. The body was kept in plain view next to a moderately busy road, making quite an interesting story to tell for all the people who drove by the scene, dismissing it as holiday spirit.
