On Saturday, Jan. 26, two Fort Davis High School teams traveled to Pecos to compete in their first ever Vex Turning Point Robotics Competition. The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by Robotics Education & Competition has 20,000 teams from 50 countries playing in over 1,700 competitions worldwide. Our teams finished in the middle of the pack for this competition which is a great start!

Junior-Senior High School Evacuation/Reunification Drill All students in grades 6-12 will participate in an evacuation and parent reunification drill on Thursday, December 20th. The reunification designated area is First Baptist Church located at 111 S. Agave Street. Parents/guardians may begin picking up their child at the church beginning at approximately 11:35am. Parents/guardians will park their vehicle in front of the church and meet their child at the sidewalk. School personnel will be there to reunite parent/guardian and child. For the safety of your child, he/she will be released ONLY to the persons listed on the child's Emergency Contact list. Make sure you bring legal identification to the reunification site. Students who drive themselves (and siblings) to school will remain at the reunification area until all other students have been picked up by parents/guardians. These students will then be escorted back to the campus to obtain their vehicle and leave. Students DO NOT need to return to campus after being picked up by the parent/guardian. The official dismissal time for the district on Thursday is 12:05 pm. However, grades 6-12 are participating in an evacuation drill and will be dismissed as parents pick them up beginning at 11:35 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Regular school classes will be held for all FDISD students Friday, Dec. 7. Only Kinder-Grade 8 students who qualified for UIL teams will travel to Balmorhea Friday, Dec. 7 to compete. Most students will return to Fort Davis by 2 p.m. The second bus will arrive about 5:30 pm.
Junior High Students will eat breakfast in Balmorhea before the UIL competition. Elementary students are encouraged to have breakfast before coming to school or can eat breakfast from 7:15-7:45 at the gym during regular breakfast service.
Elementary and Junior High Students are participating in UIL Academic Competition in Balmorhea Friday, Dec. 7. The bus will leave about 8:30 a.m. Students competing in the morning will return about 2 p.m. Students competing in the afternoon will return about 5:30 p.m. Students may bring money to buy snacks from the concession stand. Five dollars ($5.00) should be enough for a drink and candy. Students may also bring snacks. Lunch is provided. Students should wear dress clothes such as a button-down/collared shirt, pants or jeans. Girls can wear a dress or skirt, if they want.

JH Football Schedule Change The JH football game scheduled for November 9th has changed. It will now be on Thursday, November 8th at 6:00pm in Fort Davis.
Friday, November 2, is the second Indian Day of the school year. This is a day for tutorials, state assessment remediation, and/or a requirement for students to complete missing classwork. The district has designated the last Friday of four six-week grading periods this year as Indian Day. Students who do not require remediation or tutorials, or who have completed all classwork will not be required to attend school that day. The schools will provide written notice to parents/guardians if their child will be required to attend, hours of attendance, and subject area. Indian Day will also be held Feb. 15 and April 5. Extra time is often needed to work with students who may be falling behind in work or require remediation. Indian Day will allow teachers to work with small groups of students to help improve their academic skills. If a child is assigned to attend, then attendance is mandatory. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or the principal.
Dirks-Anderson will host it's annual Open House from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 25. The event will begin in the gym with Title I information and Grade 5 student presentation. After the presentations, classrooms will be open for families to visit and view student work.

For those who have not picked them up, we will hand them out at the refresher course and you can change into your shirt at the stadium. Warm pants and jackets can also be worn due to the weather. Mini cheerleaders will be able to sing the National Anthem with Dirks Anderson. After the National Anthem, they should go to the end zone with the JH and Varsity Cheerleaders to prepare for the run through at the beginning of the game. It’s a new school year and time for Read Fort Davis to begin again at Dirks-Anderson Elementary School! The program, modeled on Read Marfa, the successful volunteer program at Marfa Elementary, brings the community, along with new books and materials, into the elementary school to help improve student literacy. A meeting for returning volunteers and community members interested in becoming reading volunteers will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Dirks-Anderson Library. The program will begin Monday, Sept. 17. Community members are invited to sign up as volunteers, committing to read to a small group of students for thirty minutes, once per week, for six weeks. The goal is to provide all Dirks-Anderson students, Pre-Kindergarten through grade 5, with a regular read-aloud time each week. Read Fort Davis is made possible through grants from Still Water Foundation and Permian Basin Area Foundation and Ann Marie Nafziger, Read Marfa founder. Returning volunteers will receive an email with a link to sign up at SignUp.com for a reading spot, or they can sign up at the Sept. 13 meeting. Fort Davis ISD received a "Met Standard" rating from TEA for the 2017-2018 school year. Single campus districts will not receive "A-F" rating labels for the '17-'18 school year. FDISD also received "Distinction" for ELA, Science, and Academic Growth.
FDISD student Archer Ferguson has been accepted into the Marine Military Academy for 2018-2019 to pursue training in cyber warfare, as part of the Aerospace program. He will also be seeking his pilot's license prior to graduation.

It's time for Athletic Physicals! Any student in grades 6-12 who is interested in athletics will need to have a current physical on file at the school. JH Math Class at work...After choosing the subject of their sticky note project, each image had to be transferred onto grid paper, colors counted, background paper cut to size, and then the fun began! Students were surprised at the challenge required to keep everything lined up and straight to produce a recognizable image.
Dirks-Anderson Elementary will host its annual Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Round Up registration for the 2018-2019 school year from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 at the school library. Dirks-Anderson offers a one-half day pre-kindergarten program for children who will be 4-years-old on or before September 1, 2018. The child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunizations records, and parent/guardian identification and proof of residence are required for enrollment. Dirks-Anderson students will need to be dropped off in front of, and enter, the front doors tomorrow (Thursday). This will only be for one day. We will resume the regular drop off and entry on Friday.
